Kim Jong-un eyes tourism as North Korea's new growth engine

31 December 2024 13:27

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has noted the need to develop tourism in the country, making the industry one of the engines of economic growth.

Kim Jong-un made his statement during a visit to the tourist town of Myongsasimni on North Korea's east coast, Caliber.Az reports, citing North Korean media.

He expressed satisfaction with the development of tourist bases and noted that the city will be able not only to receive ordinary tourists but also to hold political and cultural events of a national scale.

“If tourism is developed <...>, it will be possible, along with the development of a new sphere in the construction of socialist culture, to seize another driving force to stimulate the prosperity of the periphery and the growth of the country's economy,” the North Korean leader said.

Notably, a Korean-style coastal tourist city is splendidly springing up in Myongsasimni, renowned as a coastal scenic spot in the country, demonstrating the dynamic spirit of socialist Korea that is ushering in a new era of transformation and civilization with a great ambition and ideals.

The Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea unveiled a plan for building characteristic tourist resorts that can satisfy the cultural and emotional demands of our people on the picturesque coasts by preserving the natural and geographical features of our maritime country, and has led the projects step by step.

Under its meticulous guidance, a service network that includes many hotels, hostels, sea-bathing service facilities, various sports and recreation service facilities, and commercial and catering facilities, has been built in Myongsasimni on the Kalma peninsula, presenting a beautiful landscape.
