King Charles to address US Congress during Washington visit
Britain’s King Charles III will address the U.S. Congress on April 28 during an official visit to Washington, House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a statement on April 1.
The visit, which has been long planned, will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence from British rule. King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to travel to the United States before continuing on to Bermuda, Buckingham Palace announced on March 31, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The high-profile trip comes at a sensitive moment in transatlantic relations. The British government is seeking to repair ties with President Donald Trump that have been strained amid tensions surrounding the Iran war.
It will be the first state visit to the United States by a British monarch since 2007, when Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, made the fourth U.S. trip of her reign.
According to Trump, the royal visit will begin on April 27, with a banquet dinner at the White House scheduled for the following day.
