Knife attack on Israeli police officer thwarted in Lod VIDEO
Police shot and "neutralized" a suspect who allegedly attempted to stab an officer during an operation in the central Israeli city of Lod, law enforcement authorities said.
According to police, officers on patrol spotted a man carrying a knife and ordered him to stop. Instead, the suspect reportedly ran toward the officers and attempted to stab one of them, The Times of Israel reports.
"The officer shot at the assailant and neutralized him," police said, without providing further details on the suspect's condition.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
Police said large numbers of officers remain deployed in the area as the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
Central District Police Commander Amir Cohen is also making his way to the scene, according to law enforcement authorities.
