Kurdish forces shoot down bomb-laden drone over Erbil

The Counter-Terrorism Service in Iraqi Kurdistan announced the destruction of an explosive-laden drone near Erbil International Airport in the early morning of July 14.

According to a statement reported by Al Arabiya, the drone was detected at exactly 2:20 a.m. local time in the vicinity of the airport and was subsequently shot down without causing any casualties or damage.

Following the incident, sirens were activated as a precautionary measure in response to a recent attack on the U.S. consulate in Erbil, signalling heightened security readiness around diplomatic missions in the city.

Security forces are continuing their investigation to identify the origin of the drone and trace its flight path.
