Kuwait detains IRGC-linked group during maritime infiltration attempt
Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior said on May 12 that a group of men detained after attempting to enter the country by sea admitted during interrogation to belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to the state news agency KUNA, the detainees told investigators they had been instructed to land on Bubiyan Island using a rented fishing vessel in order to carry out hostile actions against Kuwait.
The Ministry of Defence had earlier reported the arrest of four saboteurs who attempted to infiltrate the country by sea.
The Interior Ministry further clarified that the group engaged in an exchange of fire with Kuwaiti armed forces, during which one serviceman was injured. Two other suspects reportedly managed to escape.
Bubiyan Island is located in northeastern Kuwait, near the border with Iraq.
