Kyiv considers halting fuel station operations during air raid alerts

11 September 2026 17:04

Kyiv authorities may ban fuel stations from operating during air raid alerts as filling stations increasingly come under Russian attacks, Kyiv City Council member Volodymyr Bondarenko said.

Bondarenko said there were no plans to relocate fuel stations, but their operating regime could be reconsidered because the facilities were becoming targets of Russian strikes.

He also argued that responsibility for protecting fuel stations should primarily lie with the businesses themselves, including the owners of the filling station complexes.

The issue comes after a Russian attack on a fuel station in Kyiv left four people injured, according to reports on Friday.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the station in the city’s Dniprovskyi district had been attacked twice.

“Russia also struck a fuel station in Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district,” Klitschko said.
