Kyrgyz parliament passes bill on changing national flag

The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan has adopted in the first reading a bill on changing the national flag.

It is proposed to make the rays on the flag around the tunduk (yurt top) straight instead of wavy, Caliber.Az reports citing Kyrgyz media.

The initiators of the bill believe that the wavy rays on the old flag cause associations with the sunflower, although it is not even the main agricultural crop of the republic. According to the deputies, the straight rays will make the main symbol on the flag more similar to the sun.

Sixty-six deputies were in favour of the amendments to change the flag in the first reading, eight were against it.
