Kyrgyzstan considers banning cremation until 2040
27 March 2026 11:19
The State Agency for Local Self-Government Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has drafted a bill proposing a temporary suspension of cremation, Caliber.Az reports, citing local Kyrgyz media.
The agency explained that the country currently has no crematoriums and establishing them would require addressing numerous issues, including financing, compliance with environmental and sanitary regulations, and societal cultural norms.
As a result, the draft legislation suggests suspending cremation procedures until January 1, 2040, during which the construction and operation of crematoriums would be prohibited.
