20 June 2026 15:17

Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Finance Ruslan Suynaliev has held talks with Abdulhamid Al-Khalif, Director General of the OPEC Fund for International Development, focusing on potential financing for major national infrastructure projects.

The meeting took place in Baku on the sidelines of the annual gathering of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, according to Kyrgyz media

Discussions centered on expanding cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the OPEC Fund, with particular attention given to transport, energy, agriculture, and irrigation development projects.

Among the priority initiatives highlighted were the construction of the Kambarata-1 hydroelectric power plant, the national irrigation development program, and the reconstruction of a key section of the Bishkek–Torugart road, including the Kant–Tokmok–Chym-Korgon route.

Both sides also explored opportunities for increased financial support for Kyrgyzstan’s infrastructure agenda, which authorities say is aimed at improving regional connectivity and supporting long-term economic growth.

Following the talks, officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnership ties and continuing dialogue on joint development initiatives, particularly in strategic infrastructure and energy sectors.
