Kyrgyzstan sets January 27, 2027 for presidential election

Kyrgyzstan’s parliament has formally scheduled the country’s next regular presidential election for January 27, 2027.

The Jogorku Kenesh approved a resolution titled “On the Appointment of the Regular Election of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic” at a session on September 24, with all 86 lawmakers present and voting in favour, AKIpress reported.

Under Kyrgyzstan’s constitutional election law, regular presidential elections are held on the fourth Wednesday of January in the year in which the incumbent president’s term expires. The Jogorku Kenesh is required to set the election date no later than four months before the vote.

The January 27, 2027 date is therefore in line with the statutory timetable. The election law was amended in July 2026, including provisions governing the timing of the presidential election.

Kyrgyzstan’s Constitution provides for a five-year presidential term, with the same person barred from serving more than two terms.
