Kyrgyzstan signs UN cybercrime convention in New York PHOTO

Kyrgyzstan has signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, with Prosecutor General Malik Bekturganov signing the document on behalf of the country.

The signing ceremony took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Kyrgyz media reports.

The Convention is the first comprehensive UN international legal instrument focused on combating crimes involving information technology.

It establishes a framework for international cooperation in preventing and investigating cybercrime, exchanging electronic evidence and providing mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Kyrgyz authorities expect joining the Convention to strengthen the country’s ability to investigate transnational crimes and obtain digital evidence from other states.

The next step will be domestic procedures to ratify the Convention and bring Kyrgyzstan’s national legislation into line with its provisions.
