La Repubblica: Trump agrees to Iran ceasefire without achieving original goals

The paper notes that when Trump ordered strikes on Iran, his stated goal was regime change, openly encouraging the population to protest. Over time, signals from the White House became increasingly contradictory, and the operation’s objectives repeatedly shifted. After Iran launched a counterstrike that effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. priority shifted to reopening the vital waterway. The economic fallout of this move sparked discontent even within Trump’s MAGA (Make America Great Again) base, according to the report.

Trump described Iran’s 10-point proposal as a “workable basis on which to negotiate.” The agreement includes lifting sanctions, compensation for damages, and recognition of Iran’s right to uranium enrichment, while control over the Strait of Hormuz remains with Tehran. If these points are implemented, La Repubblica questions the purpose of the military operation and how Israel can accept such an outcome.
