La Repubblica: Ukraine may receive Spada surface-to-air missile systems from Italy

The Italian authorities may approve deliveries of Spada medium-range surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs) to Ukraine.

The statement to this effect was allegedly made at a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels on October 12, TASS citing the La Repubblica newspaper.

It is noted that an inspection of the SAM system has started at the Italian Air Force base in Rivolto. According to La Repubblica, the Spada was withdrawn from service in Italy months ago, and the decision to supply the systems will be taken by the new Italian government headed by the leader of the Brothers of Italy party, Giorgia Meloni.

The Italian media also did not rule out that Italy and Spain might supply Ukraine with short-range Aspide anti-aircraft-guided missiles.
