Lack of trust in Tehran led Trump to reject Iran’s Hormuz plan – US envoy

US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposed plan to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz partly because of a lack of trust in Tehran, US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said.

Speaking on Fox News, the diplomat was asked whether Trump’s rejection was linked to his belief that Iran would not honor its commitments under an agreement. “That’s part of it. They broke the last deal,” he replied.

Waltz declined to answer a question about whether the United States was prepared to resume full-scale military operations against the Islamic Republic in the near future. “I would never get ahead of the president or take options on the table,” he said.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran had sent the United States a seven-day plan through Qatar to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian minister noted that the provisions of the plan were not new and had already been included in a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.
