Last days of life, wedding, new heart - dramatic story of Italian man

A touching story from the city of Turin in Italy. Being aware of his impending death, a 47-year-old man, after a severe heart attack, decided to marry the mother of his two-month-old daughter, while in the intensive care unit. Twelve hours after the wedding, good news came about finding a heart for a transplant operation. His life was saved.

The patient was convinced that he was on his deathbed because he would not receive a heart transplant, and therefore, in the last hours of his life, he decided to fulfil his dream - to marry his partner.

The wedding took place in the cardiac surgery department, where a representative of the registry office of Turin arrived.

Balloons with painted hearts were hung around the patient's bed, and the bride, instead of flowers, held a "bouquet" of blood tubes, reports the daily newspaper "La Repubblica", according to Polish news service Fakt.

Twelve hours after the wedding, the hospital received information from the national transplant centre that a heart for the man was found in Naples. The seven-hour successful transplant operation gifted him an all-new heart and life.

“Let this be the beginning of a new happy life together,” said the director of the Citta Della Salute hospital, Giovanni La Valle.
