Latvia summons Russian diplomat over Lavrov's drone allegations
Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 22 summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires and issued a strong protest over comments by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov alleging that Latvian airspace had been used for drone attacks on Russian territory.
Officials in Riga described the statements as “an outright lie,” stressing that neither Latvia nor any other Baltic state had provided their territory or airspace for such actions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Latvian media.
The Latvian side added that this position had already been communicated to Russian diplomats.
The Foreign Ministry stated that such claims are part of an ongoing disinformation campaign by Russia, despite public denials.
In addition, during the meeting, Latvia protested the dismantling of memorials in the Russian city of Tomsk dedicated to victims of political repression, including a monument to repressed Latvians.
The ministry demanded explanations from the Russian side.
