Latvia transfers SENTINEL radars to Lithuania to strengthen air defence
The Baltic states are continuing efforts to bolster regional air defence, with Lithuania receiving SENTINEL radar systems from Latvia free of charge, Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence announced on July 16.
Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said the primary role of the SENTINEL radars is to support NASAMS air defence operations by providing accurate target detection and tracking data.
“These radars will help us respond more effectively to potential threats and protect the security of our citizens. I thank Latvia and the United States for their continued cooperation in strengthening regional security,” Kaunas said.
According to the ministry, Latvia decided to transfer the radars to Lithuania following a proposal from the United States, as the Latvian armed forces use other air defence systems to meet their operational requirements.
