Lebanese army expands presence in southern pilot zone under Israel deal VIDEO

Units of the Lebanese army have entered the village of Zawtar el-Gharbiya in southern Lebanon as part of the implementation of a framework agreement with Israel and have begun clearing mines from the area, the Lebanese army announced, as reported by Al Jazeera.

Amid the ongoing operations, the military urged citizens to avoid travelling to the area until the security situation stabilises.

Zawtar el-Gharbiya is among the first group of six so-called “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon where, under a US-mediated agreement, Israeli forces are expected to withdraw, and Lebanese army units will subsequently be deployed.
