Lebanese leadership discusses response to Israeli attacks

During a meeting of the Lebanese government on March 2, Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal reportedly raised the question of how the army should respond to attacks from Israel, according to N12, citing the newspaper Al-Akhbar.

The Lebanese president reportedly emphasised that it would not be prudent to engage in direct confrontation with Israeli forces if they advance into certain areas or carry out ground operations.

He stressed that he is not willing to risk the lives of Lebanese soldiers, particularly if the situation could be used as a pretext to involve the country in a wider conflict.
