Lebanon chooses independent foreign policy path, president says

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has said that Lebanon has taken a sovereign decision to distance itself from what he described as the Iranian-US political trajectory.

Speaking in an interview with LBC on July 3, Aoun said Lebanon’s foreign policy direction reflects an effort to assert greater independence in its decision-making.

“Our sovereign decision to chart a course separate from the Iranian-American one is a problem for some people who are accustomed to being under the tutelage of a power that controls us, makes decisions for us, and negotiates on our behalf,” Aoun said.
