Lebanon PM condemns Israeli strikes, warns of further escalation
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has condemned Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, warning that the latest escalation could undermine efforts to stabilise the situation.
Salam described the developments as “extremely dangerous” and stressed that any military structures operating on Lebanese territory should be addressed by the Lebanese state, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“The responsibility for countering any military structures, if they exist on Lebanese territory, lies solely with the Lebanese state, through the Lebanese Army and its legitimate institutions,” Salam said.
His remarks followed an announcement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that it had carried out overnight strikes against what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure in the Nabatiyeh and Ansar areas of southern Lebanon.
The IDF said the strikes were conducted in response to actions by Hezbollah against Israeli military personnel in the area.
