Lebanon PM heads to Washington after Israel pushes direct talks

10 April 2026 15:18

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam is set to travel to Washington in the coming days after Israel requested direct negotiations with Beirut, a Lebanese government source said on April 10.

The planned visit comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts linked to a fragile ceasefire arrangement involving the United States and Iran, which remains under strain over its scope and implementation, particularly regarding military activity in Lebanon, Caliber.Az reports via US media.

Israel has continued to carry out strikes against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon despite the ceasefire framework, including a large-scale wave of attacks on April 8 that Lebanese authorities said killed at least 300 people.

The Israeli government has not publicly commented on the reported request for direct talks with Lebanon. The White House also has not responded to requests for comment.
