Leo Express to launch one of Europe’s longest train routes

Private rail operator Leo Express will launch a new international train service on June 25 linking Germany, Czechia and Poland with the Ukrainian border, creating one of Europe's longest direct rail routes.

The Prague-based company said the route will cover more than 1,300 kilometres and operate once daily in each direction, connecting major cities across Central and Eastern Europe, Euronews writes.

The service will begin in Przemyśl, a Polish city near the Ukrainian border, and travel through Kraków, Ostrava, Prague, Dresden, Leipzig and Erfurt before terminating in Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt Airport.

Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express, said: “With this new route, we are also removing the iron curtains between Western and Eastern Europe, connecting important European centres and providing access to Ukraine.”

According to the schedule, westbound trains will depart Przemyśl at 1:31 p.m. and arrive at Frankfurt Airport at 7:53 a.m. the following day. Eastbound services will leave Frankfurt Airport at 8:27 a.m. and reach Przemyśl at 2:23 a.m. the next day.

Köhler highlighted the route’s connectivity for international travellers.

“Leo Express offers a connection with an excellent arrival time at 7:53 am at Frankfurt Airport, providing seamless transfers to European and intercontinental flights.

“The return connection at 8:27 am also enables a daily connection to Prague with later arrivals in Kraków and Przemyśl. At the same time, the train provides a direct connection between Prague, Dresden, Leipzig, Erfurt and Frankfurt.”

Passengers will have access to onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets, refreshments and air conditioning throughout the journey.
