Liberian cargo ship survives explosion in Gulf of Finland without injuries PHOTO
An explosion occurred aboard a Liberian-flagged cargo vessel in the Gulf of Finland, MNS portal reports.
The container ship MSC Giada III, en route from Belgium to Saint Petersburg, experienced the incident near Neva Bay. The blast originated in the engine compartment, triggering a fire that subsequently spread to the deck superstructure.
At the time, 22 people were on board, including the captain, a Russian national, and 21 crew members from Myanmar. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Emergency response efforts were swiftly deployed from the port of Saint Petersburg, with the rescue vessel Spasatel Karev and the icebreaker Semyon Dezhnev dispatched to the scene. Several hours later, the fire was fully extinguished.
Authorities confirmed that the ship’s hull remained intact and no fuel leaks were detected. Following the containment of the fire, the damaged container ship was safely towed to the port of Saint Petersburg for inspection and repairs.
