Lightning strikes crowd of protesters in Brazil, over 70 injured VIDEO
In Brazil’s capital, Brasília, lightning suddenly struck a crowd of demonstrators rallying in support of former president Jair Bolsonaro, injuring more than 70 people, a local outlet reports.
The incident occurred in a square during rainfall, when people were standing with umbrellas near metal barriers. The moment of the strike was captured on video by eyewitnesses.
Around 30 of the total wounded were hospitalised with burns to the abdomen, arms, and upper body. Eight people remain in serious condition.
Jair Bolsonaro served as president of Brazil from 2019 to 2022. Last year, he was sentenced to 27 years in prison in a case related to an attempted coup. Investigators allege that Bolsonaro and his associates planned to disrupt the inauguration of the new president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
