Lithuania bans broadcasting of Russian, Belarusian TV channels
22 September 2022 20:45
The Lithuanian Seimas (Parliament) urgently adopted an amendment to the law providing for a temporary ban on the broadcasting of Russian and Belarusian channels.
“We must undoubtedly protect our information space,” said Vytautas Juozapitis, Chairman of the Seimas Committee for Culture, Delfi reports.
In turn, the representative of the regional faction Petras Gražulis noted that those who wish to watch Russian or Belarusian programmes will always find ways to do so.
The decision was taken urgently, as the Saeima's resolution on the introduction of a state of emergency throughout the country, which prohibited the rebroadcasting of programmes that spread misinformation, expired on September 16.
