Lithuania conducts military drills near border with Belarus
From August 11 to 22, Lithuania will host the Aršus vilkas 2025 (Fierce Wolf 25) military exercises near its border with Belarus, the Lithuanian army announced.
The drills are organised by the Geležinis Vilkas (Iron Wolf) battalion, part of the Grand Duke Algirdas Infantry Brigade. The exercises will take place primarily in the Varėna district, which borders Belarus, and at the Gaizgūnas training ground, Caliber.Az reports via Lithuanian media.
Approximately 350 soldiers and 50 pieces of military equipment are expected to participate in the two-week event.
During the first week of training, the infantry company and battalion headquarters will be redeployed to the Varėna district, where they will hone their defensive operations in populated areas using Vilkas infantry fighting vehicles and other battalion combat equipment.
During the second week of training at the Gaizhynai training ground, the units will conduct combat firing exercises at the company level, the army stated.
The Aršus vilkas 2025 exercises aim to enhance the readiness and operational capabilities of Lithuania’s forces amid heightened regional security concerns.
