Lithuania receives Polish-made Grom air defence missiles
Polish-made Grom air defence missiles have been delivered to the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ warehouses, the Defence Ministry announced on July 3.
In 2023, Lithuania signed a contract worth 28 million euros with the Polish company Mesko for the supply of these missiles, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“The Grom is a man-portable anti-aircraft missile system manufactured in Poland. It is designed to destroy air targets with visual and infrared emissions, such as aircraft, helicopters, fighter jets or remotely piloted aircraft,” the ministry said.
The missiles can be launched from a standing or crouching position, from a trench, from a ship, or from a slow-moving vehicle.
The ministry also noted the Grom’s mobility and its capability to protect both infantry units and facilities from direct air attacks.
In November last year, Lithuania, along with Poland, Estonia, and Norway, signed a letter of intent to acquire Polish-made Piorun short-range air defence systems, according to earlier reports by BNS.
