Lithuania seeks NATO, EU action over critical infrastructure threats

07 August 2026 12:40

Lithuania is urging NATO and the European Union to introduce additional measures to strengthen the protection and resilience of the country’s critical infrastructure, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry told the Delfi news portal that Vilnius is pursuing the issue through diplomatic channels, seeking greater support from both NATO and the EU.

“Through diplomatic efforts, we are also seeking to ensure that NATO and the EU initiate additional measures to protect particularly important infrastructure and enhance its resilience,” the ministry said.

The appeal comes after the 15min news portal reported that Lithuanian military intelligence had information suggesting possible Russian attacks targeting critical infrastructure in Lithuania and other Baltic states.

According to the report, such attacks could potentially involve unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) manufactured by Ukraine.

The report has raised concerns over the security of critical infrastructure across the Baltic region amid heightened regional tensions.

However, Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said there is currently no direct threat to the country.
