Lithuania to spend hundreds of millions of euros on anti-tank mines

29 June 2026 14:44

A shipment of anti-tank mines worth approximately €3 million has arrived in Lithuania, the country's Ministry of National Defence announced, as the Baltic state moves ahead with plans to spend hundreds of millions of euros on strengthening its anti-armour capabilities.

“M14 anti-tank mines manufactured by the Estonian company Eesti Arsenal have been delivered to military warehouses. The value of the shipment is approximately €3 million,” the ministry said in a statement, as reported by TASS.

According to the ministry's plans, Lithuania will spend more than €800 million on anti-tank mines and mine-laying systems by 2035.

The procurement schedule envisages the purchase of 60% of the total planned ten-year stockpile by 2029. This is expected to amount to 170,000 mines.

Vilnius will cover only part of the projected costs from its own resources. Around €190 million will be provided through the European Union’s SAFE military financing programme.
