Loud bang reported near bulk carrier in Persian Gulf

An incident possibly involving an explosion has been reported in the Persian Gulf, according to the post shared by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre on X.

The incident occurred approximately 36 nautical miles (67 kilometres) north of Abu Dhabi and southwest of the Strait of Hormuz.

UKMTO said the captain of a bulk carrier operating in the area reported a splash and a loud bang close to the vessel.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
