Lukashenko calls for religious and ethnic peace in Belarus

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has called for maintaining peace among people of different faiths and ethnic backgrounds in the country.

Speaking while appointing Oleg Dyachenko as Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs, the president said a stable situation had been established in Belarus in terms of relations between different religious and ethnic groups and stressed the need to preserve it, Caliber.Az reports per Belarusian media.

“Peace, peace and only peace between different faiths. Belarus is a melting pot of all faiths and nationalities,” Lukashenko said.

He also urged people not to focus on differences based on their origins.

“The Belarusian people are a good, normal, intelligent and progressive nation. There is no need to divide anything,” Lukashenko said.

The president expressed hope that Dyachenko would continue his work in the position, drawing on his previous experience.
