Lukashenko congratulates Lithuania, highlights cultural, historical bonds
President Alexander Lukashenko extended greetings to the people of Lithuania on State Restoration Day, on behalf of the Belarusian people and personally, emphasising the long-standing historical connection between the two nations.
In his message, Lukashenko highlighted centuries of friendly ties built on shared history, spiritual values, and cultural exchange, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Belarusian presidential website.
“Even today, despite existing difficulties and challenges, Belarusians retain genuine goodwill toward Lithuanians,” the president noted.
Lukashenko emphasised that neither short-sighted politicians nor their foreign advisers, whose recommendations on Belarus do not align with Lithuania’s true interests, can impose their view of neighbourly relations on the Lithuanian people.
He also stated that Belarus is committed to the constructive development of bilateral relations on a healthy basis, grounded in partnership, trust, friendship, and mutual respect.
Relations between Lithuania and Belarus remain tense, however, following incidents of weather balloons carrying contraband reaching Lithuanian territory, temporarily halting airport operations, and Lithuania’s active support for tightening sanctions against Belarus.
