Lukashenko seeks to turn parenthood into "fashionable trend"

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has called for the government to develop incentives for responsible motherhood and fatherhood and make parenthood a “fashionable trend”.

He said the state should find an effective formula to revive demographic trends, encourage responsible parenthood and help preserve and increase the country’s population, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

“To ensure that we do not disappear as a nation and that there are people to work, it is simple: two parents – two children. That is the basic rule, as young people say. Better still, three or more,” Lukashenko said, according to his press service.

Lukashenko also pointed to the financial support provided to parents in Belarus.

He noted that the standard of living in the country was half as high 10 years ago, but more children were born at that time.

“Almost 120,000 [children were born] in 2015, compared with 55,000 in 2025,” he said.
