Lukashenko urges CSTO to exercise caution in relations with Armenia
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has called on the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) to adopt a careful and tactful approach in its dealings with Armenia, citing the country’s complex political situation.
Speaking at a meeting with CSTO Secretary-General Taalatbek Masadykov, Lukashenko noted that while Armenia remains a member of the CSTO, it does not always appear to support the organisation’s work, Caliber.Az reports via Belarusian media.
He stressed that the situation in Armenia is particularly delicate during the election period and that the CSTO must act with caution and tact in managing relations with the country.
Armenia previously froze its participation in CSTO activities, with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan arguing that the organisation had, in his view, posed threats to the country’s sovereignty. In December 2025, he stated that relations between Armenia and the bloc had passed the “point of no return.”
