Luxembourg steps up support for Ukraine’s energy sector

Luxembourg has increased its support for Ukraine’s energy sector through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy said Tuesday, September 22.

Critical high-voltage equipment worth more than €236,000 ($271,000) has been delivered to the Kharkiv region, the ministry said. The equipment was provided by the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency.

The shipment includes 27 high-voltage bushings for circuit breakers, transformers and power transmission lines, as well as 16 sets of disconnectors.

“The new equipment will help replace damaged components, restore and ensure reliable electricity transmission, as well as reduce the risk of disruptions to electricity supplies in the region, whose energy infrastructure continues to face significant strain,” the ministry said.

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund is one of the international mechanisms used to procure critical equipment for the country’s energy companies. Ukraine’s government said in July that the fund had mobilised nearly €1.94 billion from 39 donors representing 26 countries and three international organisations.
