Macron arrives in UK for state visit, Franco-British summit VIDEO
French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived in the United Kingdom for a state visit, marking what he described as a "significant moment" for Franco-British relations and European cooperation.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Macron said the visit would be followed by a Franco-British summit aimed at deepening bilateral ties across key sectors, including defence, energy, space, and artificial intelligence, Caliber.Az reports.
“The United Kingdom is a strategic partner, an ally, a friend,” Macron wrote. “Our bond is longstanding, forged by history and strengthened by trust.”
Highlighting the broad scope of cooperation, Macron cited joint efforts in security, nuclear energy, space, innovation, migration, and culture as areas where both nations are committed to strengthening ties in “a concrete, effective, and lasting way.”
He also welcomed the UK’s expressed willingness to strengthen relations with the European Union, calling it “a powerful signal” and a step toward exploring “new means of cooperation that respect our mutual interests.”
Macron emphasized the importance of unity on global issues, pointing to joint initiatives in support of Ukraine, industrial partnerships such as those with French energy giant EDF, and ongoing military and space cooperation as examples of a “vibrant and forward-looking” partnership.
“French and British: two free and proud peoples who never give up. That is what unites us, beyond any official texts,” Macron concluded.
