Macron asks Trump to lift sanctions on ICC judge

French President Emmanuel Macron has appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on several European citizens, according to the newspaper La Tribune Dimanche.

In his letter, Macron requested a review of U.S. administration decisions and the removal of restrictions targeting former European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton and International Criminal Court judge Nicolas Guillou.

“I urge you to reconsider the decisions of your administration and lift the sanctions unfairly imposed on Nicolas Guillou and Thierry Breton,” the French president wrote.

The United States imposed sanctions on Breton in December 2025 and on Guillou in August 2025. They are banned from entering the United States.
