Macron: France “neither informed nor involved” in strikes on Iran
France was neither informed nor involved in the recent military strikes against Iran conducted by the United States and Israel, President Emmanuel Macron said.
Addressing the situation at a defence council meeting, Macron emphasized that Paris had no prior warning and played no role in the operations, which also excluded regional states and France’s allies, Caliber.Az reports via French media.
“The United States and Israel made the decision to carry out strikes on Iran,” Macron said in remarks broadcast from the Élysée Palace on X. “France was neither consulted nor involved, and the same applies to regional partners and our allies.”
Macron noted that he had spoken by phone with representatives of the countries affected by the Iranian strikes, though he did not specify which states were contacted.
He underscored the need for a diplomatic approach to the crisis. “It is clear that challenges related to Iran’s nuclear programme, ballistic missile development, and regional stability cannot be addressed through military strikes alone,” he said. “France will continue to support and pursue all avenues for a peaceful, negotiated resolution.”
