Macron, Merz congratulate Hungary’s Magyar on election victory

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have congratulated Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar on his success in Hungary’s parliamentary elections.

The European leaders wrote about their congratulations on the social media platform X.

Macron said he personally called Magyar to congratulate him on his election victory. He noted that France welcomes the success of the democratic process and the commitment of the Hungarian people to European values.

“Let us move forward together towards a more sovereign Europe, for the security of our continent, our competitiveness, and our democracy,” the French president wrote.

For his part, Merz said he looks forward to close cooperation with Hungary’s new leadership.

“I am looking forward to working with you. Let’s join forces for a strong, secure and, above all, united Europe. Gratulálok, kedves Magyar Péter!” the German chancellor stated.
