Macron says fuel prices “unbearable” amid supply disruptions

18 September 2026 09:31

French President Emmanuel Macron has described fuel prices at petrol stations in France as “unbearable” amid supply disruptions across the country.

Writing on X after meetings with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Macron said blockades of maritime routes were having a direct impact on people’s daily lives.

“French people are experiencing the consequences at petrol stations, where prices have become unbearable,” he wrote.

Fuel prices in Europe have risen since the start of the conflict between the US and Iran.

The participants in the talks stressed the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

On Thursday, Macron instructed the government to monitor petrol prices amid widespread disruptions to supplies at petrol stations across France.

Government spokeswoman Maud Bregeon said about 10% of petrol stations in France were experiencing shortages of at least one type of fuel.
