Macron signals Europe’s interest in structured dialogue with Russia
French President Emmanuel Macron has said that Europe is interested in establishing structured dialogue with Russia on issues of shared concern.
“We are interested in structuring discussions with Russia on issues that concern our common interests, namely our own security policy, our neighbourhood policy and, of course, the protection of Ukraine’s interests,” Macron said after arriving at the EU–Western Balkans summit in Montenegro, TASS reports.
The French leader said he believes Russia and Ukraine could develop approaches both to a ceasefire and to a future peace plan. “We have always supported direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia,” he noted.
Macron also said that Europe “at a certain point must be at the negotiating table.” “This is about the architecture of peace and security for Europeans, taking into account geography,” he emphasized.
