Macron welcomes US–Iran ceasefire, calls for Lebanon’s inclusion

French President Emmanuel Macron on welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a “very good thing.”

Speaking at the start of a meeting with senior defence and security officials, Macron expressed hope that the agreement would hold and create space for diplomacy, Reuters reports.

“We expect, in the coming days and weeks, that it will be fully respected throughout the region and will allow negotiations to take place,” he said.

The French leader also underlined the importance of extending the ceasefire’s scope beyond the immediate parties involved, specifically highlighting Lebanon.

“Our wish is to ensure that the ceasefire fully includes Lebanon,” he added.
