05 October 2025 10:42
An earthquake was recorded in the Caspian Sea, 13 kilometres southeast of the Astara station, Caliber.Az reports citing the Republican Seismic Survey Centre of Azerbaijan.
The tremor, registered at 05:36 local time, had a magnitude of 3.5. The epicentre was located at a depth of 45 kilometres.
The RSSC, which operates a network of over 30 seismic stations across Azerbaijan, confirmed the quake's parameters in real-time, emphasizing its offshore location minimized risks to populated areas.
Astara, a border town with a population of around 35,000, lies at the Azerbaijan-Iran frontier, where the Caspian coastline meets the Talysh Mountains.
