Magnitude 5.3 earthquake strikes off Taiwan’s coast

A strong earthquake measuring magnitude 5.3 has struck off the coast of Taiwan.
The tremor was recorded at 06:27 local time on February 12 (22:27 GMT on February 11), Caliber.Az reports, citing the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The earthquake’s epicentre was located approximately 180 kilometres south of the city of Hengchun, which has a population of around 31,000.
The quake originated at a depth of 15 kilometres beneath the seabed, EMSC data shows.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the earthquake. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
