Magnitude 5.9 earthquake strikes off coast of New Guinea

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 has been recorded off the coast of New Guinea, the island divided between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, according to the information released by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
The seismic event’s epicentre was located approximately 174 kilometres northwest of the Indonesian city of Jayapura, with a focal depth of 63 kilometres.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or material damage following the quake. Authorities also confirmed that no tsunami warning has been issued.
