18 August 2026 16:08

Around 30 people, including four civil defence personnel, were injured in a major fire at the Tanjaro fuel depot in Sulaymaniyah province in northern Iraq, an update to an earlier report said.

The blaze, which triggered several explosions and destroyed dozens of fuel tankers, was brought under control after more than four hours of firefighting, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Dozens of tanker lorries and more than 3 million litres of petrol were destroyed in the fire. Most of the injured were treated at the scene, while those with more serious injuries were taken to the hospital.

The fire did not spread to neighbouring warehouses. Authorities are investigating its cause and assessing the full extent of the damage.

A major fire broke out at the Tanjaro fuel depot in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province, triggering several explosions and destroying dozens of fuel tankers.

The blaze reportedly destroyed 38 tanker trucks and more than 3 million liters of gasoline. Initial reports indicate that a fuel leak may have caused the fire, allowing the flames to spread rapidly across the facility, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

Two people suffered burns in the incident. One was hospitalised, while the other was reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the full extent of the damage. The incident could also disrupt fuel transportation and distribution in Sulaymaniyah province.
