Majority of Italians oppose Meloni’s reforms
23 March 2026 23:57
According to preliminary data from the Italian Interior Ministry, 54.46% of participants in the national referendum voted against the judicial reform proposed by Giorgia Meloni’s government.
The changes were supported by 45.54% of voters, the ministry’s website reported.
Turnout reached nearly 59%—an unexpectedly high figure for such votes. No quorum was required for the referendum.
Although the results are not yet final, opponents of the reform are already calling for the resignation of the government and the prime minister. Representatives of the ruling coalition, on the other hand, insist that the vote will not affect the cabinet’s work.
