Majority of Ukrainians against negotiations with Russia
In December 2022, 62% of Ukrainians believe that the war can only end if they win. At the same time, 26% of respondents are ready to make concessions to Russia if it helps to achieve peace.
It is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing data from a survey by the local Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center.
Compared to October, the share of Ukrainians who consider any concessions to the Russian Federation unacceptable has increased by 4%.
The majority of Ukrainians (60%) believe that peace talks with Russia are impossible, even to save lives because Russia still does not comply with the agreements. Some 23% are convinced that in order to save the lives of the Ukrainian military, civilians, prisoners, and deportees, it is necessary to negotiate with Russia to end the war. Another 17% of respondents could not decide on their position on this issue.
In addition, Ukrainians are against negotiations and concessions to Russia in the event of a decrease or termination of assistance from Western states.
The survey was conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center from 13 to 21 December 2022 among 2,018 respondents. The face-to-face survey was conducted only in the territories controlled by the government of Ukraine and where there are no hostilities.
