A man suspected of setting fire to vehicles belonging to Ukraine’s armed forces has been detained in Kyiv.
Police in the Ukrainian capital arrested a 35-year-old local resident who allegedly burned seven vehicles in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district in exchange for payment. The suspect had previously been prosecuted for property-related crimes, according to the Kyiv police press service.
Investigators said the man agreed to carry out orders to set fire to cars belonging to Ukraine’s Defence Forces, using flammable substances. In several cases, he also set civilian vehicles on fire, disguising them as military targets in order to receive payment.
If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
